Why Clean Energy is the Smartest Choice for Our Pockets and Our Planet

We are living through a critical turning point. Ahead of the upcoming election, the choice facing voters couldn’t be clearer, yet the political landscape is muddy. Major parties like the Liberals, Nationals, and One Nation remain in rough lockstep, denying climate reality and spreading misinformation about the pathway to stable, cheap power. Meanwhile, while the Labor Party has committed to a pathway to net zero, it continues to approve new polluting fossil fuel projects like coal mines and gas pipelines.
We want everyone to think about climate when they cast their vote and choose the best possible way forward. With community independents and the Greens offering a scientifically grounded path to an all-electric, low-emissions future, it is more important than ever to cut through the noise and share a clear, honest, science-backed message.
At the same time, with Victoria’s aging, unreliable coal-fired power stations scheduled to retire by 2035, the physical transition away from fossil fuels is locked in. We have a clear deadline and a golden opportunity. Taking proactive action now is essential not only to protect our climate and communities, but to secure a stable, affordable energy future before old infrastructure fades away. Fortunately, the solution is already right above and around us.
Why Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage Lead the Way
Coal and gas are simply no longer viable options for our future. Fossil fuels are expensive, increasingly unreliable, and tied to volatile global markets that drive up power bills. In contrast, renewables offer a clean, reliable, and common-sense path forward.
Wind, solar, and battery storage are the cheapest and most effective ways to power our state. While coal and gas rely on burning finite resources that come with escalating costs, the fuel for wind and solar is completely free. Modern battery storage steps in to store that clean energy, ensuring a steady, reliable supply around the clock. By embracing this combination, we can replace retiring coal with homegrown power that permanently undercuts fossil fuels and protects household budgets.
Connecting the Message
Our poster series from Environment Victoria—featuring ‘Our sun, our wind, our power’, ‘Solar saves gas costs’, ‘Clean energy cuts bills’, and ‘Solar for renters’—reflects a simple, positive truth: the clean energy transition is a practical opportunity for everyone. By voting for climate action and stepping into our renewable future together, we can cut household expenses, lower emissions, and build a thriving, resilient community.
