Climate Action Now.

Who: My name is Di, I live at Clifton Creek and have done so for 33 years

Why:

1. My partner and I have experienced first hand the effects of climate change on our property, drought, fire, floods and flora and fauna changes in our 33 years of residence. Our lived experiences mesh perfectly with current scientific evidence.

2. The incredible amount of support we received after the fires from the EG Shire, plus State Govt, CFA. Ausnet, blaze aid, local organisations andcommunity groups among others, was amazing, but surely this cannot be a sustainable option for Governments into the future, resources whichcould be better used to deal with homelessness, health and social concerns, being continually channelled into disaster relief clean up.     We need to address the root cause of the  problem at all levels of Government.

How:

• Create regulations that address renewable energy requirements for all housing in EG Shire, maybe with Rate concessions for those who implement them which could be an incentive.

• More recycling initiatives for household rubbish.

• More EV charging stations.

• Make the climate crisis a priority in all decision making.

• Set up education programs on how we as a community and as individuals, can address climate change.                                               Includeinformation on the latest scientific evidence and what is being done in other localities. Make these programs available and accessible to all people in the EG Shire regardless of age, disadvantage, economic statusand location.

• Let EG Shire become a Climate Emergency Shire.
