The East Gippsland Sybils visited our Shire Offices this week. Their message was clear – just read their outfits! They are calling on our councillors to join others in declaring a Climate Emergency in our Shire.

The actions planned or underway at every level of government are significantly less than the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report says we must achieve to keep global temperatures below 1.5°C. We are truly in an Emergency.

Unfortunately, even with all the the alarms blaring, the house on fire, action is slow, new fossil fuel exploration is underway, and we are on track for 3-4°C of warming. The climate scientists have a clear evidence based set of actions that need to be followed to keep warming from getting worse. Let’s follow the science and get results. NOW!

The Sybils were pleased to see that most of the councillors were able to come out and meet them and their supporters, to share information and concerns.
